THE WAR DIARIES

It is precisely 5.00 am in the morning I've just got up. Typical day as well, rain in my face, boots soaked. And plus breakfast hasn't came yet. “Tommo get up you lazy thing! Do you think we're here to sleep!”

“No sergeant”

“Well don't just stand there! In the trench now”

“Yes sergeant” That was me at my best getting a roaring from Sergeant Hanley, and I just mutter away. Pete over heard the row along with a couple of others. “What was all that about Tommo”

“Slept in”

“He's never caught me yet sleeping in”

“Lucky you” We're walking in the trench now. We can here the German's bombings. A little scared now one part of the trench has been had a going at with the bombs.

Shivering all over I went to find Charlie, he was in the dugout. “I'm scared Charlie go, get out of here”

Its all right Tommo nothing's going to happen if we stay close.”

“But we have to stay in the trenches.”

“Pete don't worry and we'll be fine.”

“Thanks Charlie.”

Just then we heard screaming, as if someone had been shot, bombed alive. We ran back in the trench. I bumped into Sergeant Hanley “What you running about for? What do think this is, a playground or something….?”

“No sergeant” He was walking away before I could even say sorry.
