10. School Leavers - BAE Systems Apprenticeships (Mrs Hamilton)
I had a phone call yesterday from BAE Systems. It seems that despite publicising the chance of apprenticeships within the company, there has been a poor response. The phone call was to check that we had received the information. In the present economic climate, this is hard to believe. BAE is a well known company and an apprenticeship there would be a good move. Posters concerning the apprenticeships were sent to Physics and Technical but those interested can look on the web site. The closing dates for applications is 10th April so there is still time to make enquiries.

11.  Financial joke of the week -   (Don’t try this at home) (Mrs Hamilton)

12.  L floor Tuck Shop (Mrs Hamilton)
It has been brought to my attention that things are not going as they should. To make things absolutely clear, the following should happen. Pupils waiting to be served should be in a queue, supervised by the prefects on duty. Pupils pushing in will be put to the end of the queue and will certainly not be served out of turn. Once served, pupils should clear the area and go outside. The only pupils who should then be around are those going to the toilets. The last time the prefects and staff had any problems, the L floor tuck shop was closed for 3 days - so be warned!.

It’s that time of year again!  Come along to the excellent Art disco which will be on Wednesday 19th March from 7 pm to 10 pm.  This year there is a bit of a twist; we will be playing your own music via an iPod.  With every ticket that you buy, you will be allowed one music request which, if appropriate (nothing rude or crude), will be played.  Tickets will be on sale in art hall from today.  Any music requests should be in before Friday 13th.  This year the theme is Musical Shows so all you pink ladies and T-birds out there get your costumes ready!!  Excellent live band will be playing also.  There will be fun games and tickets will be entered into a “deal or no deal” game.  This disco is for S3 to S6 pupils only.

10. Lost property (Office)

A new bus service starts on Monday 9 March which will run from the second last roundabout in Southcraigs to and from the bus station.  It will leave Southcraigs at 8.30 am and the bus station at 3.45 pm.  Cost 75p up to the age of 15, £1.50 for 16 and over.  This is a trial service so if it is not used the service will stop.  It is a normal service bus for all members of the public.  The school and parent council have been campaigning to get the bus so please use it.

3.  Use the Metro! (Mrs Ford)
Remember, every time you buy something in the Metro we get points for Save the Children.  We need more points so we can buy more things for underdeveloped countries.  The Pupil Council will select what we buy.  So, please use the Metro as often as you can.

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG) will be holding an annual conference on Monday 8 June for young people considering a career in medicine.  The purpose of the conference is to allow young people the opportunity to find out whether medicine is likely to be a suitable career for them.  Places are limited (1 or 2 places per school) and priority will be given to students who have not yet applied to medical school but are considering whether or not to apply.  Names to me on a first-come-first-served basis.

13. S4 Mock Interviews  (Mrs Hamilton)
There are 23 pupils who have been selected for interview. It is quite an achievement as for example there were 67 applicants for the ASDA job and only 6 interviewees. I would like to meet with the 23 pupils at registration on Thursday 26th Feb in the Assembly Hall.
I have passed all the mock interview application forms back to PSE teachers. I have read them all and given feedback. I hope they will be of benefit to you. A number of them are excellent, including some pupils who did not get an interview. Every interview is different. You have no control over the opposition but you can make sure that your application is the best it can be. Writing and spelling are crucial. Get help if you know that you are weak in that department. Everyone should get their form checked as anyone can make a silly mistake. Your form is the only way to make a good impression and leave the employer wanting to know more about you.
