1. Welcome back (Mrs Ford)
Welcome back to the senior pupils now starting in S5 and S6. The next few weeks are a vital part of the curriculum therefore you should be starting on a serious note. Make sure you get off to a flying start in all subjects – working hard in class and completing homework.

2. Prizegiving (Mrs Ford)
The list of prize and certificate winners is now on display in school and on the website. Prize winners must report to the office for the funds to buy the book or books. An invitation to attend the prizegiving will be sent to all parents – Monday 16 June. Well done to everyone who has gained a certificate or prize.

3. Competition (Mrs Ford)
The BBC has launched a competition to find the best young speaker in Britain . If you are interested in this please see www.bbb.co.uk/speaker or email speaker@bbc.co.uk

4. Uniform (Mrs Ford)
There will be a check of uniform shortly. If you wear inappropriate clothes to school you may be sent home or to the behaviour unit. Shorts are not acceptable as school uniform. Skirt and trousers only are school uniform.

5. S3 Monitors (Mrs Hamilton)
Thank you to the monitors who coped with their duties during the SQA exams. They will return next session when the S5/6 have their prelims.

6. Prefects (Mrs Hamilton)
28 prefects have been appointed at the moment. They will start their duties on Tuesday 3 rd June. Pupils should follow their instructions at all times.

7. S6 (Mrs Hamilton)
Ayrshire Chamber are holding a competition starting in August. It gives pupils the chance to shadow a business manager and then compile a report on what they see. The report is then presented to judges and a winner is selected. It is a good opportunity for anyone interested in business. If you are interested, give your name to Mrs Hamilton

8. Work Experience for UCAS applicants (Mrs Hamilton)
If you are going into S6 and you intend to apply for college or university next session, you need to consider doing relevant work experience. This can be done during the summer or October holidays, although some term time work experience could be considered if it did not interfere with important class work. I can help you get a relevant placement, but sorting out the details will be up to you. If you would like me to assist you in this, see me as soon as possible.

9. Reading for Gold Scheme (Dr Neilson)
Congratulations to Brendan Stirling of 1W who has gained the Silver and Gold Award of the Reading for Gold Scheme. Well done!

10. The Reading Game (Dr Neilson)
Congratulations to Lauren Rodger of 2B1 who has gained the First level of the Reading Game.

11. Golf Cup (Mr Bryden)
The Golf Cup will be held on Friday 6 th June 2008 . There is a maximum of 12 places. Entries close at 3.45 pm on Wednesday 4 th June 2008 . See Mr Bryden for details and to sign up.

12. Joseph – School Show (Mr Robertson)
Rehearsals – Tuesday 3 rd , Wednesday 4 th June pm and Friday 6 th June all day.

Performances – Tuesday 10 th , Wednesday 11 th , and Thursday 12 th at 7.30 – Adults £5 – concessions £3.50. Tickets now on sale at Reception.

1. Parental questionnaires (Mrs Ford)
All S1,S2 and S3 pupils will shortly receive a questionnaire to take home for parents to complete. If you return this with your name on the envelope you have a chance of winning £25.

2. Show Racism the Red Card (Mrs Ford)
We had a winner in this national competition – Casey McDaid. All the winning entries are now on display at the football museum at Hampden and will be there until the end of August. You may want to visit the museum during this time.

3. Dance Summer Courses – Kilmarnock (Mrs Miller)
Application forms are available at PE for pupils interested in this summer activity. Places are limited and are on a “first come” basis. The weeks activities will include a wide range of dance styles. This course is free! Get you application form as soon as possible.

1. Day of Action on Litter (Mrs Ford)
On Tuesday 3 June there will be a national day of action on litter all across Scotland . There will be extra patrols of litter wardens and police to catch anyone dropping litter – you will be fined £50 if caught. You should never drop litter and you can be fined at anytime but on Tuesday 3 June you are more likely to be caught. You have been warned!

2. Prizegiving (Mrs Ford)
Anyone who received a cup or trophy last year is now asked to return it to the school office. The list of this year's prize and certificate winners will be on display shortly – excitement is mounting!

3. Holiday weekend (Mrs Ford)
The school is on holiday on Friday 23 and Monday 26 May. (Senior pupils with exams on these days obviously must attend.) Have a good break.

4. S1,2,3 Boys Championships (Mrs Hamilton)
High jump will take place on Wednesday morning. Competitors should report to Games Hall after registration with PE kit.

5. S1 Trip (Mr Kerr)
S1 Trip to the Falkirk Wheel –

Tuesday 27 th May classes first half of 1B (down to A Marshall), 1D and 1W

Wednesday 28 th May classes – second half of 1B, 1S and 1F.

Pupils should report to Metro at 9.05 am . Full school uniform, a packed lunch and a pen or pencil are required.

6. Chess Club (Mr McCormick)
The pupil's team achieved their best ever result for at least 15 years when they held the staff team to a 2-2 draw. Lewis Campbell and Kirsty McLauchlan both won their games.

7. Reading for Gold Scheme (Dr Neilson)
Congratulations to Eilidh McKenzie, 1D, Jamie Kerr, 1P5 and Sarah Mackin, 1W who gained the Silver Award of the Reading for Gold scheme. Well done!

1. Uniform (Mrs Ford)
All pupils in S1/S2/S3 must continue to wear school uniform. There will be spot checks to make sure this is the case. Thank you.

2. School prizegiving (Mrs Ford)
Winners of prizes and certificates will be announced in a week or so. Watch out for details and then follow the instructions about what to do.

3. S1,2 and 3 – Sports Championships (Mrs Hamilton)
The S1,2 and 3 Sports Championship heats will be held on Tuesday morning, the 20 th May at field. The high jump events will be held in school on the Tuesday/Wednesday afternoon. The finals of the championships will be held on Thursday morning (22 nd ) at the Highland Games being held at the field. S1 finalists will be at the field from early on and S2 and S3 finalists will be taken to field at P3. Everyone will be back at school by lunchtime.

Invitations to the Championships will be given to pupils who have been doing well in the athletics block and have shown willingness and enthusiasm.

4. S3 Monitors (Mrs Hamilton)
S3 Monitors - Monitors have been put in place to keep the prefects duties going. All the rules will carry on as before. I expect all pupils to treat the monitors with respect and consideration. They, in turn, will do likewise.

S5 into S6 prefects - Once checks have been completed, a list of 32 prefects plus a waiting list (in case of pupils changing their mind about returning to school etc) will be posted out. Details of groups and duties will be included and prefects will start their duties on 2 nd June when the new timetable begins. Blazers/badges will not be allocated until August .Prefects will be recognised by their school uniform and happy faces.

5. S1/S2/S3 Health Survey (Mr Howie)
Please return all parental consent forms by Friday 16 th May.

6. Career in Law (Mr Richardson)

7. LRC Summer Competition (Dr. Neilson)
Don't forget to enter the LRC Summer Competition which is a James Bond trail around the LRC. Prizes will be awarded and every participant receives something.

8. Reading for Gold Scheme (Dr. Neilson)
Congratulations to Andrew Fitzsimmons of 1P5 who has gained the Silver Award of the Reading for Gold scheme. Well done!

9. Highland Games – Tuesday 20 th May (Mr Kerr)
On Thursday 22 nd May all first year pupils will be attending this activity at the playing fields and will be out of classes all morning. All pupils should report to the games hall at 9.05 am with full PE kit and wet weather clothing. Full school uniform must be worn as the normal timetable will be followed in the afternoon. Books jotters for these classes must also be brought. Pupils not bringing PE kit will be returned to normal class by 9.15 am . These pupils should be given meaningful work.

1. S5/6 pupils (Mrs Ford)
Good luck to senior pupils whose exams begin next week. Remember that studying and completing past papers will make a significant improvement to results.

To pupils who will be leaving school immediately after the exams: best of luck for the future. If and when you make your first million, remember the school to which you owe it all.

2. S6 pupils – hello! (Mrs Ford)
Christopher Duthie has e-mailed to ask us to say hello to his former classesmates in S6. Chris now lives in Australia and is about to enter the Australian army.

3. School show - change of date (Mrs Ford)
The school show will now run on Tuesday 10, Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 June.

4. S1/S2/S3 Health Survey (Mr Howie)

5. Reading for Gold Scheme (Dr. Neilson)
Congratulations to Bobby Stevenson of 1W and Sara-Jane Wilson of 1P5 who have gained the Bronze Award and to Demi Anderson, Ross Caddis, Stacie Taylor and Sara-Jane Wilson of 1P5 who have gained the Silver Award of the Reading for Gold scheme. Well done!

6. Summer Activities – Thursday 26 June (Mr Ramsay)
Opportunity to sign up for these activities has been extended until Friday 9 May. You can sign up from 1.10pm each day at the reception area with the Prefects. Payment must be made in full when you sign up.

1. S4 pupils – SQA exams (Mrs Ford)
Very best of luck to all S4 pupils who begin their exams on Thursday. We hope you do well. Take careful note of the information below from Mrs Hollywood.

2. SQA Examinations (A Hollywood )
The standard grade exams begin on Thursday 1 st May.

Your subject, level and seat number for each exam will be displayed on the window of L5 facing out to the playground.

You should bring a note of your candidate number, a pen, pencil, ruler and rubber to every exam and a calculator (when required).

Please note that the following must not be taken into the exam room:- mobile phone other electronic devices – iPod etc programmable calculator – anyone found with a programmable calculator will be disqualified from the exam.

If you have any concerns relating to the subject, level or seat number displayed see Mrs Hollywood immediately. Good luck.

3. Help with revision (Mrs Ford)

5. Work Experience (Mrs Hamilton)
Pupils who will be in S4 next session and have an interest in applying for work experience with Strathclyde Police should see Mrs Hamilton for an application for,. This work experience will not take place in September along with the rest but in March 2009. We have been successful in the past and pupils have enjoyed the week.

6. S3 Monitors (Mrs Hamilton)
The prefects go on study leave soon and it is proposed to appoint S3 pupils as monitors for 4 weeks to do the prefects duties when the senior school is on study leave. More details to follow.

7. L Floor Tuck Shop (Mrs Hamilton)
2 capable pupils required to serve in the tuck shop during study leave. Volunteers from S1,2 or 3 accepted. See Mrs Hamilton as soon as possible.

8. Are you interested in a career in Law? (Mrs Hamilton)
There is a careers event being held on Wednesday 28 th May 2008 at Dundee University . It is being run by the Education and Training department of the Law Society of Scotland. If you are interested email careers@lawscot.org.uk <mailto:careers@lawscot.org.uk> as soon as possible as places are at a premium. 10. Summer Activities (Mr Ramsay)
Pupils will be able to sign up for the activities all this week at lunchtime. Please see adverts on plasma screens and in the metro for more information. 

11. Malawi Visitors (Mr Ramsay)
On Wednesday 30 th April visitors from Mzuzu in Malawi will be in the school. They will be getting a tour around the school and be visiting classes in the afternoon. Please be on your best behaviour and make them feel welcome.

12. Proxy Servers (Mr Ramsay)
I have asked East Ayrshire to monitor the use of proxy servers for accessing inappropriate/unsuitable sites. If you are caught you will have your internet access removed. Please note access to social networking sites is not allowed.

1. Welcome back (Mrs Ford)
Welcome back for the summer term. I hope you had a good holiday.

2. School bags (Mrs Ford)
A number if pupils appear not to be carrying a bag to school. You need this for your homework diary, jotters and equipment. In future you will lose credits if you do not have a bag.

3. Student awards agency (Mrs Ford)
All senior pupils leaving school to attend university or a higher education college may apply for financial support. The application forms and Guidance notes are now available from the school office. Also, see www.saas.gov.uk for online advice and applications.

4. Kilmarnock Churches Youth Project (Mrs Ford)
Last summer S1 and S2 pupils completed a survey on a proposed youth club in Kilmarnock . We have been informed that the club will be going ahead and have been asked to thank everyone who completed a questionnaire.

5. Mercy ships (Mrs Ford)
We have received thanks from Mrs Duncan for our donation to mercy ships. Mrs Duncan spoke to several classes about this charity in the Geography Department. Thank you Mrs Lyon for organising this.

6. Useful website for revision (Mrs Ford)
For S4,S5 and S6 pupils revising for exams, the site www.leckieandleckie.co.uk might be useful.

7. Good, Bad and Ugly Disco for S3,S4,S5 and S6 (Mrs Lightbown)
Tickets available in Art Gallery at lunchtime on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Fancy dress prizes, food, good music and the ONE disco a year in the gallery space – not to be missed - £2.50.

9. Tennis Club (Mrs J Miller)
The first meeting of the tennis club will be Thursday 24 April. Any pupil interested should meet at the PE department at 3.30pm .

10. Chess Club (Mr McCormick)
The remaining adjourned games in the Staff v Pupils match are scheduled to resume at 1.10pm on Thursday. Games in the school championship can be played on Wednesday or Thursday lunchtime for the rest of April. Pupils who wish to be considered for a first year team to play Belmont Academy Should see Mr McCormick as soon as possible.

The holidays begin at 2.30 pm on Friday 3 April. You return to school on Tuesday 22 April. Have a great holiday.

2. S3 exams (Mrs Ford)
This is a reminder to S3 pupils that your exams begin when you return to school. Spend some time in the holidays revising.

3. PPP (Mr Ramsay)
Block 4 has now finished. Lists of those who have achieved an award will be displayed in register classes from Wednesday 2 nd April. Please remember that you must achieve 4 out of 5 awards to qualify for Summer Activities

4. Easter Activities – S1/2/3 - Friday 4 th April (Mr Ramsay)
Please report to the Assembly Hall immediately after break on Friday. All groups will be dismissed from there. Once the activity is finished you will be free to go directly for your lunch once instructed by the member of staff in charge

5. Non-uniform day – Friday 4 th April (Mr Ramsay)
£1 to participate in this. You will be issued with a sticker once you have paid. Please display this appropriately. A donation will be made to the Malawi Appeal.

6. Easter Supported Study – S4/5/6 (Mr Ramsay)
All pupils attending supported study must enter and leave by the main door and must sign in and out of the building. Thank you for your cooperation.

7. Malawi Collection (Mr Ramsay)
Thank you to all pupils who contributed toward this. We will let you know what the money has been used for.

8. Thank you (Mrs Ford)
There are a number of things to thank pupils for this week.

•  Many thanks to the performers and organisers of last week's alternative Easter concert, especially to Amy Bromley and Rachel Tesfaye. It was a great night.

•  Thank you to everyone who helped with the P7 Open Evening. Parents were very impressed with the helpers in departments and the tour guides.

•  Thanks also to the performers in this week's Easter concert. It was excellent.

•  Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the Malawi appeal, either by bringing in materials, donating money or both. Your generosity is much appreciated and will make a difference to people's lives.

9. Lochgoilhead S1 Trip – 12-16 th May 2008 (Mr Richardson)
All pupils who are going on this trip note that there will be a short meeting after Registration on Wednesday 2 April 2008 .

10. S6 PSE – Thursday Period 2 (Mr Richardson)
Recently quite a few S6 pupils have not been attending this period. You are timetabled for this period and must attend. This is especially important when the school have arranged visiting speakers. Non-attendance reflects very badly on the school and staff concerned. The last talk will be on 3 rd April. A register will be taken. The topic is about Taking a Year in Industry before going on to University. The talk will now be in Mrs Stables room – G4 in the Old Academy .

11. Gallery Disco (S4xl Group)
The art department and S4xl group are jointly hosting a disco on the 24 th April 2008 . The theme of the disco is ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly'. Come in fancy dress. Prizes to the best in each category! A non-alcoholic cocktail bar will be available on the night. Tickets will be on sale for a cost of £2.50 on 22 nd , 23 rd and 24 th of April in the Art Gallery . Be there or be square!!!!!

12. Chess (Mr McCormick)
The school championship games will be the priority on Wednesday and Thursday lunchtime meeting during April except on Thursday 3 rd April the rescheduled date for the staff –v- pupils match.

13. Easter Egg Trail (Dr. Neilson) Congratulations to the winners of the LRC's Easter Egg Trail, Ryan McCulloch 1B, Nicole Campbell 1S, Katie Fenwick and Eilidh McKenzie of 1D. They all win a large Easter egg with small eggs for all the participants. Well done!

14. The Reading Game (J. Neilson)
Congratulations to Shaun McClymont of 2B1 who has reached the First Level of The Reading Game. Well done!

15. S1 Health Day Quiz Winner (Mr Howie)
Congratulations to Dylan McPike, 1D who answered all 6 questions correctly. He will receive a £10 WH Smith voucher.

16. S4 SQA Meeting (Mrs Hollywood)
There will be a short SQA meeting for all S4 pupils on Wednesday 2 nd April at the beginning of period 2. Teachers should escort pupils to the hall as promptly as possible for the issue of exam timetables and information on how to register for e-mail/text results.

17. S2/S3 Geography Trip (Lochranza) – 19 th -21 st May (Mrs Lyon)
Any pupils who plans to go on this trip must return their form and deposit by Thursday to Mrs Lyon (H2). Failure to do so will mean their place is lost of the trip will be cancelled. Thank you.

Welcome back to school following the Easter weekend. Time for some hard work before the holidays in April.

2.  CARING group (Mrs Ford)
For those involved in this, the next meeting is at 10.15am on Friday 28 March in the Carers Cottage.

3.  Auditions for “Joseph” (Mr Robertson)
Auditions for “Joseph” continue at lunchtime on Wednesday. ALL who wish a part in the show, major or minor, should report to EL1 no later than 1pm . This is your LAST chance.

4.  Choir for “Joseph” (Mr Robertson)
Choir for “Joseph” will rehearse at 3.30pm on Thursday in EL1. ALL who wish to participate in the show must attend or see Mrs Auld or Mr Robertson beforehand if unable to attend.

5.  Jazz Band (Mr Robertson)
Jazz Band is ON for Wednesday at 3.30pm in EL1

6.  Easter Concert (Mr Robertson)
The Easter Concert is on Tuesday 1 st April at 7.30pm . Tickets are now available from Music department or Reception priced £3 and £2 concession.

Pupils will be able to sign up for the activities on Wednesday and Thursday at lunchtime in the Assembly Hall. You will be required to pay for the activity at this time. If you do not qualify for an award when the PPP block ends next week your money will be refunded.

10. Easter Supported Study – S4/5/6 (Mr Ramsay)
The timetable for this is now finalised. Please check when you should be attending in order to maximise your chances for the forthcoming SQA exams. You are required to sign in and out at reception when attending Easter Study. A folder will be placed at the reception for this.

11. Malawi Competition (Mr Ramsay)
Please put your completed forms into the box which is located in the reception. Prizes will be awarded during Assemblies on Thursday 3 rd April.

12. Personal Property in PE – All Pupils (Mr Ramsay)
Please place all your valuables in the box provided by your PE teacher. If you have a number of items, you could put all items into a plastic pouch clearly marked with your name. This would assist us in keeping your valuables safe. It is not advisable to leave any items of value in your pockets or bag whilst participating in activities, even if you believe they are hidden.

13. Collection for Malawi (Mr Ramsay)
The Pupil Council will uplift a collection for Malawi during period 1 on Tuesday 1 st April. Please give generously as all money raised will be used to purchase materials which are greatly needed (Mark your diary now!)

1. Holiday weekend (Mrs Ford)
The school is closed on Friday 21 March and Monday 24 March for the Easter weekend. Have a good weekend and don't overdo the chocolate eggs.

2. S6 pupils – USA summer institute (Mrs Ford)
Any S6 pupil interested in the possibility of a cultural exchange programme to the United States should look at www.fulbright.co.uk

3. School Show (Mr Robertson)
School show auditions will take place on Thursday 20 th March at lunchtime in EA1. All who are auditioning for Joseph, Pharoah, Reuben and the 3 narrators should report no later than 1 pm . Auditions for Brothers and other supporting parts will be held next week.

4. Tesco computers for schools – (Mrs Snodgrass)
We are now collecting tesco computers for schools vouchers – these are given out for every £10 spent in Tesco over the next few weeks.

If you receive any of these it would be great if you could donate them to the box at reception – or give them to your register teacher to send up with the register.

Last year we collected over 2000 vouchers so keep collecting!!! Also old mobile phones and used ink cartridges can be exchanged for vouchers so donations of these would be greatly appreciated also. Thanks!!

5. Chess (Mr McCormick)
The school championship is now underway and Wednesday 19 th is the last date on which entries are being accepted.

6. No Smoking Quiz (Mr Howie)
Congratulations to all pupils in 1F and 1D who were winners in our No-smoking quiz. All winners will receive a £5 WH Smith voucher.

7. Let us entertain you! (Mrs Hogg )
On Thursday 27th March, there will be a concert featuring the talents of pupils in the school. This will be to raise funds for the Yearbook and the Music department.

8. Easter Activities – S1/2/3 only on Friday 4 th April (Mr Ramsay)
Pupils will be able to sign up for the activities on Wednesday and Thursday at lunchtime in the Assembly Hall and also next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. You will be required to pay for the activity at this time. If you do not qualify for an award when the PPP block ends next week your money will be refunded.

1.  Stranger danger (Mrs Ford)
A reminder to all pupils to be wary of strangers who approach them and never to go in a car with someone you do not know, whatever story you are told. If you see someone acting suspiciously around children you should report this to your parents, a teacher or the police.

2.  Pupil car park (Mrs Ford)
Pupils cannot park in the school car park of playground. This is a health and safety issue as pupils do not have adequate driving experience to park in a school playground. If you park on school premises you will be in very serious trouble.

3.  Jobs Fair 2008 – Tuesday 18 th March – Magnum Centre (Mr Richardson)
All S4,S5,S6 who intend to leave school this year and plan to go into employment, training or further education (ie not University ) are invited to attend. Various employers and colleges of education will be present. A bus will be leaving the school at 10.20 am on Tuesday 18 th March and returning at 12.30 pm . Those interested should give their names to Mr Richardson or Register Teacher as soon as possible as numbers may be limited.

4.  Industrial Awareness Day (Mrs Hamilton)
S3 pupils took part in the Industrial Awareness Day last week. The vast majority enjoyed the day and learned about industry. The advisers were very positive about the behaviour and attitude of the pupils in their groups. If this applies to you – well done!

Congratulations to Ryan McCulloch of 1P1 who won the Pupil's World Book Day competition. He received a £10 book token. The Second Round of the EA Readers' Cup has taken place. Congratulations to 1P3 and to 2W, the winning teams for each year. Each member of the team received a £5 book token. All the team members received a goodie bag.

7. Chess Club (Mr McCormick)
The School Championship will be played over the remaining Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes in March except Thursday 27th the date of the Staff v Pupils match.

The British Land competition ended with Lewis Campbell finishing first with 20/21 just ahead of Rian Hood on 19/21 with Sean Porteus 3rd on 17/21. They, along with age group winners, Steven Blair, Liam van Loggerenberg, Kirsty McLaughlan, Emma McMurray and Ross Caddis, all qualify for the next round at Eastwood Academy on 26th April. Well done all!

Congratulations to our A team who were placed second in the Ayrshire Chess Association Junior League and particularly Rian Hood with a 100% record and Kirsty McLauchlan with 70%, both over all 5 games. Other contributors who played some games were Sean Porteus, Liam van Loggerenberg, Emma McMurray, Jamie McIvor and Roy Smith. The B team of Emma McMurray, Jamie McIver, Roy Smith and Blane Currie finished acreditable 10th out of 13

2. Snowballs (Mrs Ford)
The snow has now gone but if it comes back remember that you cannot throw snowballs in the school playground or near the school. This is a warning and reminder . If you are seen throwing a snowball you will be in very serious trouble – the CCTV cameras will be recording and checked.

3. Congratulations (Mrs Ford)
Very well done to Casey McDaid who has won the national Show Racism the Red Card poetry competition. She has won £750 for the school and now goes forward to the overall competition at Hamden later this month. Congratulations to Casey.

S6 pupils are organising a Media Sale in A9 during the lunchtime of World Book Day, Thursday the 6 th of March. Please bring along items – books, comics, magazines, videos, DVDs, etc to the LRC and support the sale. The pupils are raising money for LRC funds.

Pupils should only use this door as an emergency fire exit not as a way in and out of school. The door will be monitored and if you are caught exiting this way, you will be in trouble.

5. Forensic Science Workshops Friday 29th Feb - Assembly Hall (Mr Ramsay)
session 1 = 9.30-10.45 - classes 3D2, 3S2 & 3F apart from those pupils who are not participating.
session 2 = 11.20-12.35 - classes 3B, 3D1, 3S1 & 3W apart from those pupils who are not participating.
For session 1 pupils will go to classes before being released at 9.25 to come to the hall.  
For session 2 pupils should report directly to the hall after the morning interval.
Pupils who are not involved will attend their regular class – teachers know the names of those pupils who have been withdrawn from the event. Apologies for any inconvenience.

6. Joseph (Music Department)
Rehearsals for the summer production are now underway. We anticipate building on last years' success and everyone who was involved thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Whether you're a stalwart of the Music Department or you've never been involved come along and join us on Thursday's after school in the Music Department.

The painting of A and B floors should begin on Wednesday 20 th February. The painting will be done in sections and pupils should obey all instructions from staff and painters. Pupils should only enter A or B floors when they have a class on these floors.

Things are hotting up for one of the biggest nights on the KA calendar! Tickets priced £7 , cover a 3 course supper and dancing to a live ceilidh band. This is an all ticket event – you cannot simply turn up at the door. So – names and money please today to Mrs Dunsmuir or Miss Templeton.

5.  Holocaust Memorial Day (Dr Neilson/Miss Purdie)
This year the Holocaust Memorial Day will be commemorated on Friday the 25 th of January at 1.15 pm in the LRC. All senior pupils are invited to attend a short candle-lit service of remembrance.

6.  S4,5,6 Summer Leavers (Mr Richardson)
All pupils planning to leave in Summer 2008 note that their will be the usual Jobs Fair by Careers Scotland at the Magnum in Irvine on Tuesday 18 th March. A bus will be leaving from the school on that day. If interested in going please give names to your Guidance Teacher or Mr Richardson.

7.  The Glass Menagerie Theatre Trip (Mrs Thomson)

2. Christmas parcels (Mrs Ford)
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the parcels and to the Prince's Trust xl club members who parcelled them up and delivered them. We have received a thank you card from the residents of Mill Court – on display in the entrance foyer.

3. Reminder (Mrs Ford)
Remember you cannot use a mobile phone, MP3 player, iPod or any other gadget in school, even the nice, new shiny one you got for Christmas. If you are seen with any electronic item inside school it will be confiscated until the end of the day. Use them only at intervals and lunchtime, outside the school building. Better still, don't bring them to school so you cannot lose or damage them.

4. Air Cadets (Mrs Ford)
The Air Cadets are looking for new members, male or female, aged 13 or 14. Supported study has already started in the run up to the prelim exams in February. Take full advantage of this support to your revision – it genuinely improves results.

6. Braeside Street (Mrs Ford)
We have had complaints about pupils annoying residents in the flats behind the school in Braeside Street . We have switched a CCTV camera to this area. If you are seen causing any problems at lunchtimes, intervals or any other time you will be in serious trouble.

7. S1 French Internet Club – Mrs Stables/Miss Irvine
Calling all Internautes! A quick reminder that Mrs Stables and Miss Irvine are still running the S1 French Internet club every Wednesday in G5 from 1.15pm . Come along and discover the many fun Modern Languages websites! All S1 pupils welcome.

8. Foreign Film Club – Miss Irvine & Mrs Stables
The next film showing for the Foreign Film Club will be on Monday 14 th January at 3.45pm in G4. The film chosen for this week is Les Choristes. Set in post-war France , Les Choristes tells the story of a music teacher who transforms the lives of the boys in his care by introducing them to the joys of music. This film is a PG Certificate, therefore, all pupils in the school from S1-S6 are welcome at this showing.

9. Chess (Mr McCormick)
The first round of the British Lang Chess Challenge will take place in Room C3 at 1.10 pm on Wednesday 23 rd January and remaining rounds on the next 6 Wednesdays. All entrancts qualify for a badge, most for a mascot, some for a victory flag and one for the trophy. Those wishing to enter please see Mr McCormick.

1. End of term arrangements (Mrs Ford)
School closes at 2.30 pm on Friday 21 December. Pupils returning in the afternoon should report directly to the Assembly Hall, not to period 5 classes.

2. Tuckshop on L Floor (Mrs Ford)
There will be no tuckshop on L floor on Wednesday this week because there are examinations in rooms L4 and L5. The Metro will be open as usual.

3. Christmas Ceilidhs (Mrs Hamilton)
The S2 ceilidh is at P5/6 on Thursday 20 th December. Pupils should register with their P5 teacher and come to the Assembly Hall ready to dance. Scottish dress should be worn. There is a prize for the best dressed boy and girl and there is a prize for the best boy/girl dancer. There will be free refreshments at the interval.

The S1 ceilidh is at P3/4 on Friday 21 st December. Older pupils who are prepared to dance are welcome to attend as long as they have their appropriate Triple P awards. Again Scottish dress should be worn and there will be prizes for the best dressed boy/girl dancer. There will be free refreshments at the interval for S1. Older pupils will have to pay.

Anyone who does not behave well or who refuses to dance will be sent back to normal classes.

Tickets for the disco will be on sale at the reception area from 1.10-1.30 on Wednesday 12 th , Thursday 13 th and Friday 14 th December. They are priced £2. If you have a discount note for bringing in a tin for the Christmas Parcels you must present this at the time of buying your ticket. If you did not qualify for an award in this block then you will not be allowed to attend the disco or be considered for any other events that may happen next week. Remember attendance and time keeping play a large part in whether you qualify for an award. After all we are all trying to Promote Positive Performance in all areas. No stiletto heels at the disco. Sorry, but these cause damage to the floor and you will not be permitted to enter if you are wearing them. (boys or girls)

The team were successful in the road traffic trial but unfortunately lost the drugs trial and our Depute Head Girl, Beth Wilson will spend the next 3 years in prison. I will be lodging an appeal to prove her innocence. Thanks again to all those involved.

It is now totally against school rules to go behind the PE container. There will be spot chec ks by staff and the cameras will be directed towards this area. If you are caught behind it you will be in very serious trouble.

4. Food in classes and corridors (Mrs Ford)
This is a reminder that you cannot eat in classrooms or corridors. If you are seen doing this staff will confiscate your food or drink. The reason for the strict rule is that without it we end up knee deep in litter. You may only drink water in classes if the class teacher allows it.

5. KA Website – 2007 Trenches Trip (Mr Reid)
Visit the Kilmarnock Academy website and discover the secrets of the 2007 Trenches Trip. Read first hand accounts of the journey, activities and the fun experiences by all concerned. Photos submitted by the participants are also included. Thanks to Amy Bromley (S6) for organising this article.

Congratulations to Lewis Gallacher, 4F who won both Under 15s singles and doubles at the east of Scotland badminton championships last weekend. Good luck for the West of Scotland championships in December.

10. Children in Need (David McIlwraith)
•  a big thank you to all those who were involved in ‘Children in Need' last Friday. We raised the sum of £1057.06 and this was due to your contributions. Thanks to all of those who entertained us during our lunchtime activities – especially the French Department, Mrs Brown and Joan! Well done to all of the raffle prize-winners, the top prize being won by Charlotte Edmonds. Lets not forget to thank the office staff for counting the money, the HE Department for making cakes and any other staff not mentioned who contributed in some way. Thanks you.

11. Well done 1P1!!! (Miss McKee)
On Friday 1P1 cleaned our easels to raise money for Children in Need! They were outside in the freezing cold to wash them and the art department donated 50p per easel that was cleaned. They raised £10. Well done! 

12. Make Your Mark Enterprise Competition (Mrs Hamilton)
Congratulations to the S4 group who spent Monday taking part in the Make Your Mark Enterprise Competition. They are the only Ayrshire team to make it through to the regional finals at Hampden on Thursday. If they are successful there, London beckons. Special thanks to Miss Templeton for organising the team and well done to the team – E McKenzie, L Templeton, L Conway, F Kerr, D Don, L Campbell.

13. East Ayrshire Enterprise Challenge (Mrs Hamilton)
Congratulations to L Ayre, O Smith, A Lindsay, L Mack, C Wilson who did so well at the East Ayrshire Enterprise Challenge at Prestwick Airport last Tuesday. They came second in the competition despite making the most money and being the only S5 team there - everyone else was S6. Well done! Thanks to Mr McGougan and Miss Christie for taking the team to the competition.

14. Chess Club Mr McCormick)
Wed and Thur 1.10 - 1.40 - Interhouse Competition - In round 2 Scott beat Fleming by 3 to 0 and Burns defeated Wallace by the same scoreline. There were some close games. Round 3 on Wednesday 21st sees Wallace playing Scott and Dunlop playing Burns. School team - There will be an after school meeting (3.30 - 5.00) on Monday 26th November mainly for team members to practice recording moves, but any player is welcome.

15. Reading for Gold Scheme (Dr. Neilson)
Under the Reading for Gold scheme, congratulations to Reece Lee of 1P1, Kirsty Arthur, James Blades, Nicky Bolland, Dale Campbell, Nicole Campbell, Shannan Clark, Sean Corson, Eilidh Edgar, John Kerr, Glen Love, Sam McNeill, Samantha Moore, Jordan Muir, Hannah Rutherford, Natasha Thomson and Conor Tremble of 1P4 who have all gained the Bronze Award. Well done!

A very special congratulations to Ryan McCulloch of 1P1 who has reached the Platinum Award for which he had to read and report on fifteen books, then a further five books at a higher level of difficulty. He will receive his award at prize giving next June.

16. Junior Vocal Group (Mr Ramsay)
Rehearsals take place on Thursdays at 1.10pm in Mr Ramsay's room EA1. All 1 st and 2 nd year pupils are welcome to come along.

17. Primary 7 Quiz – Tuesday 27 th November (Mr Kerr)
The pupils on the attached list should be allowed out of class at 9.40 am on the above date. They will be helping with the quiz until 12 noon . They will also be in the assembly hall until 9.15 am on Monday 26 th November.

18. S4 Young Mens Health Day – 21 st November (Mr Howie)
The above event will take place during periods 5 and 6. All male pupils in S4 should register with their Period 5 teacher and then go directly to the assembly hall.

19. Sci Fun workshop/information sessions (Mrs Hollywood)

2. Be careful (Mrs Ford)
There has been a report of someone inviting a young person into his car in the Kilmarnock area. Remember never to go anywhere with strangers and report any incident of someone acting strangely.

3. Kilmarnock Academy quiz team (Mr Kerr)
Kilmarnock Academy has been invited to take part in the round table quiz on Wednesday 21 st November. You can become part of the team by coming to the quiz trial on Thursday 15 th November at 1.10 pm in the assembly hall.

4. LRC Performance Indicators (Dr. J Neilson)

8. Chess Club (Wednesday and Thursday in C3 at 1.10)
In the first round of the Inter-house competition in a close match Fleming beat Burns 2 - 1 while in the other match Wallace beat Dunlop 2 – 0. The second round on Wednesday 14 is when Burns play Wallace and Scott play Fleming.

Congratulations to Lesley Roy, Head Girl for being awarded a place on the prestigious Rotary Club Euroscola trip to the European parliament in Strasbourg . Lesley will take part in debates in French in the Debating Chamber of the Parliament and she will visit schools and other institutions in Strasbourg . Well done Lesley.

Mark Rodger will be meeting with Fiona Hyslop, MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning in Edinburgh on 20 November. He is the single pupil representative of the Prince's Trust in Scotland to meet with the minister. Well done Mark.

Take a look at the school website to see the section which commemorates former pupils who died in either the First or Second World War. This will be featured in the Times Educational Supplement this week. Many thanks to Mr McIlvanney and Dr Dickson for putting this together.

3. Pink Day (Mrs Lyon)

4. Dialogue Youth – Young Scot Cards (Mr Kerr)
Dialogue Youth will be in the assembly hall at lunchtime on Wednesday 14 th November and Friday 16 th November to take photographs for Young Scot Cards. Young Scot Cards are very worthwhile having and gets you discounts from various organisations. This is open to all year groups.

11. Kilmarnock & District Football Under 15 Representative Squad (Mr Kirkland)
Congratulations to Ross Menzies S3 for being selected to play for the Kilmarnock District team against West Lothian district on Tuesday 30 th October. The game ended in a 2-2 draw. Ross is also picked to play against the North of Scotland later in November. Well done.

12. The Big World 2007 – All S6 (Mr Partridge)
All S6 pupils will attend the above event on Tuesday 13 th November from 12.30 – 3.00 pm . A bus will leave Kilmarnock Academy at 12.05 and return from the Walker Hall, Troon at 3 pm . The event is run by Strathclyde Police and has been extremely successful in recent years. School uniform should not be worn that afternoon.

13. Foreign Film Club (Miss Irvine & Mrs Stables)
The next film showing for the Foreign Film Club will be on Monday 12 th November at 3.45pm in G4. The film chosen for this week is Howl's Moving Castle (Japanese Anime) which is a U Certificate, therefore, all pupils in the school from S1-S6 are welcome at this showing. All those interested in Japanese culture and manga will love this film! Once again, you do not need to be studying a foreign language to participate in the film club.

14. Careers Scotland Jobs Fair - November 2007 (Mr Richardson)
All S4,5 and 6 pupils who intend to leave school at Christmas please note that this event will take place on Friday 23 rd November from 9.30 to 3.30 pm in volunteer Rooms in Irvine . Those interested please give names to me or their Guidance Teacher.

1. Mandarin Chinese (Mrs Ford)
A 10 week course on Mandarin will run in Grange Academy from 4.30 – 6 pm starting on Monday 12 November. The course is free but you may have to purchase a textbook. If you are interested in attending this course please pass your name to Reception.

2. S6 Question Time (Mrs Hamilton)
Thanks to all the S6 pupils who attended this event. I hope you took something from the advice given by the panel. Thanks to those who submitted questions and read them out.

3. Apodo Training (Mrs Hamilton)
Kilmarnock Academy has access to an APODO. This looks like a plastic dinosaur but it contains resources for enterprising learning in the early years of secondary and also primary school. I am looking for 3 senior pupil volunteers to be trained to use the apodo and help work with younger pupils. They will also train other pupils. The training consists of an afternoon in the Grand Hall on Thursday 15 th November. If you are interested give your name to me as soon as possible.

4. Early Warning (Mrs Hamilton)
S5 Enterprise event will take place in the Assembly Hall on Friday 23 rd November P5 and P6. More details to follow.

5. Senior choir and jazz band (Mr Robertson)
Attendances at senior choir and jazz band have been disappointing lately. Could we please have a full attendance from now on, starting this week? Anyone who cannot attend please speak to Mrs Auld or Mr Robertson before the rehearsal. Forms for East Ayrshire Senior and Intermediate choirs can be obtained from Mr Robertson.

6. Glasgow University Healthcare Visit (Mrs Devlin)

7. S5 and S6 Pupils (Mrs Stables – Modern Languages Department)
If you were in Mrs Nicolson's, or Mrs McKenzie's French classes last year (either at Standard Grade or at Intermediate II) can you please check at home to see if you still have a copy of the Métro Pour l'Écosse Rouge book. It's a reg book with a futuristic building on the cover. There are several copies of this book missing from the department and as they are really expensive, we would be very grateful if everyone could check to see if they have a book at home and bring it back to the department. Give your book to any French teacher – we will be delighted to get them back. Thanks in advance.

8. S1 Pupils (Mrs Stables – Modern Languages Department)
A reminder to all S1 pupils that the Internet club for French is still running in G5 on a Wednesday at lunchtime from 1.10 till 1.35. Come along and explore all the fun websites which will help you with your French while you enjoy playing games.

9. Chess Club (Mr McCormick)
On 1.10 – 1.40pm Wednesdays and Thursdays in C3. On Wednesday 31 st October final team selections will be made for the 3 player house teams to play in the interhouse competition. The following 5 Wednesdays will be used for the competition. Thursdays will be training days.

Welcome back to school. We hope you had a good holiday. The good news for S4 pupils is that you have only 6 weeks before your prelims begin – make sure you are working hard in all classes and completing homework.

2. Pink Day ( Mrs Lyon)
Amazing success – your enthusiasm was wonderful. Thank you to all. Total so far is over £800 which will be donated to cancer charities.

3. Fireworks (Mrs Ford)
This is a reminder that it is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to have fireworks. If you bring a firework to school, use or throw one at lunchtime or at any time during the day, you will be suspended. You cannot have them with you, in your pockets or in your bag.

4. Halloween Disco (Mr Ramsay)
Tickets will be available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes in the Assembly Hall. If you have not qualified for the PPP Award you will not be allowed to purchase a ticket or attend on the evening. Tickets are numbered and will be noted against your name. If you give/sell your ticket to someone else then you will forfeit your right to attend the next disco and the end of year activities. There will be prizes for the best costumes.

6. S6 Question Time – Monday 29 th October P5/6 (Mrs Hamilton)
This is a motivational forum to encourage pupils to find out how successful FPs of Kilmarnock Academy made their way in the world of work. All S6 pupils should register with their P5 teacher and make their way to the Assembly Hall. There is still time to hand in questions .The panel will be asked a general question and they will answer with reference to their own experiences. Pupils will get the chance to come back at the panel for further details if they wish. Tea/coffee etc will be served at the end. Any staff who are free and wish to come along even for a while, are most welcome.

Our panel is Helen Sayles, vice president of Liberty Mutual Assurance, based in Boston , USA , Bill McGregor, is the former Head Teacher of James Hamilton Academy and current Secretary of the Scottish Head Teachers Association, Claire Cunningham, freelance ariel dancer (Claire suffers from brittle bones and is on crutches) Claire is currently touring the country with The Bird of Paradise Theatre Company, Craig Conway, professional footballer with Dundee United Football Club, Alan Robertson, formerly a schoolboy internationalist and professional footballer with Kilmarnock F.C. who became a Chartered Accountant. After some years, Alan returned to his first love and is currently youth development officer with Kilmarnock Football Club.

7. Interhouse X-Country Championships (Mr Bryden)
Friday 26 th October at Kay Park (periods 5 and 6). Pupils interested in entering must give their name to the PE Department by Thursday interval.

8. Geography Club (Mr Lang)
Geography club has now moved from Wednesday lunchtime to Thursday lunchtime in H2. Any questions about this please ask Mr Lang.

9. Foreign Film Club (Miss Irvine and Mrs Stables)
Calling all film fanatics! All pupils aged 15 or over are invited to come and watch the best selection of foreign films currently available. If Spanish horror, Russian action or Japanese anime interests you then why not come along to G4 on Monday 29 th October at 3.45 pm . You do not need to be studying a foreign language to attend and enjoy these film sessions. Please speak to Miss Irvine (G2) or Mrs Stables (G4) if you are interested. The first showing will be Golden Globe nominee “Good bye Lenin!!

10. Halloween sweets for sale (Activate Group)
The activate group have been making Halloween sweets which will be on sale Wednesday 24 th October. The sweets cost 20p each and all money made will go to the Sick Children's Hospital. There will also be guess the number of sweets which will be 10p a guess.

15. Cardonald College Visit (Miss McKee)
Cardonald College are coming to visit the Art and Design department next Tuesday, 30 th October. They are going to be bringing a selection of work mainly from their fashion/textile/jewellery courses. Some students and staff from the college will also be here to answer any questions you might have regarding the courses available at the college. They will be arriving at 2 pm to speak to the Higher Art and Design students' period 5 and are staying after school for anyone else interested! If you are thinking about applying for any kind of Art and Design course in the future this is essential for you to see!! So come along and see what they have to offer!

Remember to bring £1 on Friday to be allowed not to wear uniform, and wear pink if you can. Also, remember to bring money to buy from the pink stall or guess the weight of the cake. All proceeds go to local cancer charities.

3. Balloon pining (Mrs Ford)
Please note that this stupid craze of pinging other pupils on legs or arms with balloons will not be tolerated. Anyone caught doing this or reported to have done it, will be dealt with severely.

4. PPP – ‘Promoting Positive Performance' in Kilmarnock Academy - All Classes (Mr Ramsay)
Look out for award lists which will be displayed in register classes from Thursday 11 th October. You will not be permitted to attend the Halloween Disco on Thursday 25 th October if you have not received an award in this block. Should this be the case, please take time to consider why and try to ensure you receive an award in the next block between 8 th October and 30 th November. ("Sounds like a lot of blocks." - Ed) Remember that if you do not qualify for an award you will be unable to participate in many other activities available throughout the school year. Please remind yourself of Kilmarnock Academy 's Promoting Positive Performance code.

5. Halloween Disco (Mr Ramsay)
If you have received a gold, silver or bronze award in Block 1 of Kilmarnock Academy's Promoting Positive Performance scheme you will be permitted to attend the disco on Thursday 25 th October. Well Done! Entry will be by ticket only. Tickets will cost £2 and can be purchased in the reception area at lunchtimes on Tuesday 23 rd , Wednesday 24 th and Thursday 25 th October. There will be a number of prizes awarded to those with the best costumes!

17. Schools Fantasy Football League (Mr McGougan)
Spend £70m to select and manage a team of English Premier League footballers to compete against pupils and staff from all over the country. You will challenge for manager of the month certificates and end of the season trophies and medals against friends and teachers in the School League, FA Cup and SFL Challenge Cup. Your team can be managed online allowing you to make up to 15 transfers for the season. Entries cost £3.50 and must be in before the 12 th October. All staff and pupils welcome. 1. Weekend holiday (Mrs Ford)
Friday and Monday are holidays and you are due back in school on Tuesday 25 September. Have a good break; come back even more ready to work!

2. Permission forms (Mrs Ford)
All pupils must complete and return the permission from which was sent to you in the post. If you do not do this you will not be able to take part in any trips or activities outside school.

3. Internet access forms (Mrs Ford)
These forms must be signed by you and by a parent and returned to school. If you do not do this you will not be allowed to use any computers in school. Return it immediately if you have not done so already.

4. S1 Trip -1 st year trip to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Glasgow Museum of Transport (Mr Kerr)
All first year pupils will be taken to the above on either Thursday 27 th September or Tuesday 1 st October, if parental consent forms are returned on time. Get you form in or you will not be there!

5. LRC Autumn Competition
The LRC Autumn competition is under way. Every entrant will receive something. Have a go!

6. European Day of Languages (Erin McKenzie)
Fashion show – pupils required for models – meet in the assembly hall at 1.15 pm on Thursday 20 September.

7. Geography Club (Mr Lang)
Wednesday lunchtime – 1 – 1.30 – H2 – the Geography club will be starting up on Wednesday lunch times for all S1 and S2 pupils! The club will involve Geography challenges, world Geography news, Craft time and a chance to find out what geography is all about it! This will also be a chance to do Geography homework with the help of a Geography teacher. Any questions come and ask Mr Lang.

8. Chess Club (Mr McCormick)
From now until the October break the Wednesday lunchtime session will be for those playing for a place in their House team, so absolute beginners should not come then. Thursday lunchtime is for any S1 or S2 pupil. On both days the club meets in C3 from 1.10 – 1.40pm .

9. S5/6 Career in Health Care, Bio Science, Chemistry (Mr Richardson)

1. Work Experience (Mrs Hamilton)
Parental consent forms – please return these as soon as possible to reception. All pupils who have a placement should meet briefly in the assembly hall at P3 on Thursday 13 th September to collect log book/report forms.

2. S5/6 Careers Convention (Mr Richardson)
All S5/6 pupils planning to go to University/college note that there will be a Careers Convention on Wednesday 19 th September at the Park Hotel, Kilmarnock at 2.30 pm . A bus has been booked to take pupils there and back. Names should be given to Mr Richardson as soon as possible as numbers are limited. NB : Very important t to attend as most major universities/colleges will be present.

3. European Day of Languages – Wednesday 26 September 2007 (Mrs Stables)
The Modern Languages Department are organising a major event to celebrate the European Day of Languages. At break and lunch time European foods will be on sale and there will be free entertainment at lunchtime. Croissants will cost 20p, pains au chocolat 30p and crepes 40p. Most French classes will be held in the hall where you will take part in various activities. There will be a fancy dress competition with a European theme taking place on the Wednesday and if you want to wear a football strip, it must be from a European Country – no team strips are allowed. There will be prizes for the best costumes. If anyone wants to volunteer to sing a foreign language song at lunchtime – come and see Mrs Stables in G4! Your French teachers will keep you informed!

4. Dean Park Archaeology Dig (Mrs Ford)
On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September there will be an archaeology dig at the Dean Park that you can join in on. You can get a free voucher at Reception to do this. Look at www.eastayrshire.com for full information.

5. Vocal Group rehearsals (Mrs Auld)
Start on Monday 17 th September in EL1 at 1.10 pm . All welcome.

6. Aerobics class (Mrs Miller)
Thursday after school at 3.30 – 5.00 pm . Any pupils interested in attending should give their name to PE staff. If enough pupils declare an interest the first night will be 20 th September.

1. Phoning home (Mrs Ford)
You are reminded that you cannot phone home during the day to ask your parent to come and collect you, or to check that you can go home. Once you are in school you become our responsibility – first aid staff will decide if you need to go home. You will be in trouble if you do this yourself.

2. Book return (Mrs Ford)
Please bring back school books you have at home. They are too expensive to replace so you must return them. Senior pupils will be sent home to get them if they are not back by next week.

3. Found money (Mrs Ford)
Money has been found in school. If you have lost money please go to Reception and say how much you lost and when you lost it. If you know where you lost it please give that information also. If the details are correct, it will be returned to you.

4. Prefects (Mrs Hamilton)
There are many contracts outstanding. Please sign and return to me as soon as possible. Can I remind prefects if they are going to be out of school (university open days etc) to ask those prefects who are on a rest day to cover for them.

5. Work Experience (Mrs Hamilton)
Any S4 pupils who wish to access the work experience web site in school can come along to A9 at 3.30pm on Wednesday and Thursday. It only takes 20 minutes to view places and make up to 3 placing requests. Time is running out for those who wish to go on work experience as our weeks are 17 th and 24 th September Work Experience parental consent forms should be returned to Mrs McDonald at reception as soon as possible

6. S1 and S4 pupils (Mrs Haining)
All school photograph money must be handed in to the school office by Monday 10 th September.

7. SQA Artwork return (Mrs Lightbown)
There are a number of pupils who have stated that they wished their artwork returned. Without payment we cannot get your work back. *Please note – This is your last chance, as SQA burn the work.

Most French classes will be held in the hall where you will take part in various exciting activities. S1 and 2 will be playing games in French and S3 and 4 will have the chance to win prizes in a Euroquiz! 6. New tuck shop for classes 1 and 2 on ‘L' Floor (Mr Kerr)
A new tuck shop will open up on ‘L' floor on Monday 3 rd September. The shop will be open at intervals only and will hopefully mean that the Metro will be less congested and that pupils will be able to be served more quickly in both areas.

7. Senior choir (Mrs Auld)
Senior choir rehearsals start on Thursday 30 th August at 3.30 pm in EL1. All welcome – especially new members (S3-6) – see Mrs Auld for further details if needed).

8. Chess Club (Mr McCormick)
The chess club will recommence on Wednesday 29 th August at 1.10 pm in room C3 for pupils in S3 to S6 only. Pupils in S1 and S2 only can come to the Chess Club on Thursdays at 1.10 in C3. New members especially from 1 st year whether absolute beginners or grandmaster welcome.

Welcome back to all pupils returning to school and a special welcome to those starting for the first time. We hope you had a good holiday and you will be looking forward to the new term.

2. Clubs and activities (Mrs Ford)
From now on you will see clubs sports and activities advertised in the bulletin. Make sure you get involved and get the most out of your time in school – happiest days of your life, remember!

3. Prefects (Mrs Hamilton)
Prefects are S6 pupils who help in the smooth running of the school. By the end of next week they will be wearing their blazers and will be more easily recognisable. Please follow their instructions.

4. UCAS applications (Mrs Hollywood)
The school has now registered for UCAS APPLY – the online application service for university entry in September 2008.

The school's username, password and buzzword are now available from your guidance teacher enclosed in a comprehensive instruction booklet. Applications can be made from mid September with a deadline of mid November with the exception of the following courses whose deadline is 15 th October 2007 :

•  All courses at Oxford University

•  All courses at Cambridge University

•  Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Science at all universities.

7. European Day of Languages – Wednesday  26 September 2007 (Advance Notice) Mrs. Stables
The Modern Languages Department are organising a major event to celebrate the European Day of Languages.  At break and lunch time European foods will be on sale and there will be free entertainment at lunchtime.  All French classes will be held in the hall where you will take part in various different activities.

We are looking for volunteers to take part in the celebrations by singing (or miming along to) a foreign language song.  If you like to dress up and perform, and would like to be part of the entertainment, come and see Mrs. Stables in the ML Department.

8. After school Media Club (Mr Rigg)
The Media Club will have its first meeting of the new session this Thursday (23 rd August) from 3.35 – 4.45 pm . Old members and new ones are invited. If you are interested in film-making (as writer, director, actor or camera operator) or if you simply want to have a bit of fun, join us in room F3 in the Art Department (Mr Rigg and Mr Cowan).

9. Unclaimed items from Lockers (Mr Kerr)
Have you lost something? It could have been in your locker last session and you did not remove it by the appropriate date. Items removed from lockers are now in Mr Kerr's office on ‘G' Floor. You have until Friday 1 st September to collect them. They go to the bin at 3.30 pm on that day.

 10. Wanted (Mrs Hamilton)
Mrs Hamilton is looking for cardboard shoe boxes. If you bought new shoes to come back to school and don't need the box, please bring it in.
