1. End of term arrangements (Mrs Ford)
School closes at 1 pm tomorrow. The dining hall will be open from 12.30 pm for pupils entitled to free school meals. Your teacher will release you to go to the dining hall.

2. Holidays (Mrs Ford)
Have a great summer holiday. We will see you back in school, on time and in uniform, on Wednesday 16th August.

3. Prefects (Mrs Ford)
S6 pupils who wish to be prefects must have a blazer. You will be informed during the summer if you have been selected as a prefect and you should make arrangements to acquire a blazer. The school can lease one to you. See Mrs McCulloch in the school office for details of the system.

4. European Day of Languages – Tuesday 26 September 2006 (Advance Notice)(Mrs Stables)
The Modern Languages Department are organising a major event to celebrate the European Day of Languages. At break and lunch time Europeans foods will be on sale and there will be free entertainment at lunchtime. All French classes will be held in the hall where you will take part in various different activities. We are looking for volunteers to take part in the celebration by singing (or miming along to) a foreign song. If you like to dress up and perform, and would like to be part of the entertainment, come and see Mrs Stables in the Modern Languages Department. If anyone has any French, German, Spanish, Italian flags or posters or any items of clothing which would be suitable for dressing up eg berets, scarves, stripy t-shirts (stereotypes are us!!), we would be very grateful if you could lend them to us for the day. Your French teachers will keep you informed!

5. Computers for schools vouchers – Tesco (Miss Paton)
Remember to keep collecting vouchers over the holidays, bring them in to your register teacher on your return.

1. Applicants to Medicine or Dentistry (Mrs Ford)
Senior pupils considering applying to study medicine or dentistry should be aware that they will require to take a Clinical Aptitude Test. Your guidance teacher has details or visit www.ukcat.ac.uk .

You must take the test before 28 September 2006.

2. Prefects (Mrs Ford)
S6 pupils wishing to volunteer as prefects should add their names to the list outside Mrs Ford's office. You will be accepted as a prefect if your behaviour and attendance have been satisfactory.

7. Trips to Alton Towers (S3,4,5,6) and Strathclyde Park on Wednesday 28 th June (Mr Kerr)
There will be a meeting for those going to Alton Towers at 9.05 am on Tuesday 27 th June – Strathclyde Park meeting will be at 10 am on Tuesday 27 th June. Both meetings will be in the assembly hall. Pupils will be issued with a sheet containing details of the trip. This will be proof of attendance at the meeting.

1. Prizegiving (Mrs Ford)
Congratulations to all pupils at the prizegiving on Monday evening and thank you to the performers. It was an excellent evening for everyone.

2. Uniform (Mrs Ford)
A number of pupils appear not to be in uniform. There will be spot checks next week. Senior pupils will be sent home if not in uniform.

3. Lockers (Mrs Dunachie)
If you want the use of a locker this session come to the assembly hall on Thursday 15 th June period 1 – lockers cost only £4.00 for the whole year, a bargain.

4. Lost camera (L.Hogg for Alison Cochrane)
I lost my disposable camera at the prom It had all my prom pictures on it. It was yellow and green. If anyone found it could they return it to Mrs Hogg. Room B9. Thanks.

5. East Ayrshire Readers' Cup (Dr. Neilson)
Well done to the school team of Lewis Campbell, Euan McIlvanney, Erin McKenzie and Alison Walkinshaw who just missed third place by one point. Well done also to the supporters for your exemplary behaviour. You were all a credit to the school.

6. James Bond Trail (Dr. Neilson)
It's your last chance to enter the James Bond Trail and win some fabulous prizes. Entries must be in by Friday June the 16 th . Don't delay. Enter today.

7. S4 Pupils (Mrs Hamilton)
Placements from the Careers Scotland list will be advertised at PSE this week. Pupils are welcome to apply for up to 2 jobs. Only apply for 2 if you are genuinely interested in both. Remember an application form does not mean you have the job. I will select one candidate from all the applications. Pupils who have handed in self found forms should speak to me regarding the latest their application.

8. S6 pupils (Mrs Hamilton)
All pupils in the new S6 should meet in the assembly hall at 10.20 am on Wednesday 14 th June. There will be a presentation from Mrs Murphy (Enterprise Development Officer) about a work shadowing competition. Mrs Hamilton will also give final details about the Business Dynamics Conference which is being held on Thursday and Friday the 15 th and 16 th June at Glacier Vandervell, Hurlford Road , Kilmarnock . Please bring any outstanding parental consent forms to the hall with you on Wednesday.

9. Piano Recital (Mr Ramsay)
Richard Meyrick, a professional Concert Pianist will be visiting the school on Wednesday 21 st June. The recital starts at 7 pm tickets priced £3 for adults and £2 for concessions available from reception or Mr Ramsay in the Music Department.

11. Indoor ski-ing (Mr O'Brien)
Anyone interested in a trip to X-scape the indoor ski/snowboarding place in Glasgow on the Monday of the last week of term please contact Mr O'Brien or Miss Wallace by Friday 16 th June. Price will be approximately £20 + the bus.

12. Technical Department models (Miss Paton)
All S1/2 classes as well as S3/4 craft and design classes – could you please collect all outstanding models from the technical department before Thrusday 15 th June at 3.30 pm. Any uncollected models will become firewood after this date.

13. Sports (Mrs Hamilton)
The following pupils were successful in the Kilmarnock Academy Sports Championships and they will have their medals present in the Triple P Award ceremonies next week.

1. Prizegiving (Mrs Ford)
Once again, congratulations to all prize and certificate winners. Please make sure you hand in your prize to the school office. All prize and certificate winners must attend the rehearsal on Monday 12 June at period 5. If you cannot come to rehearsal you must see Mr Partridge or there will be no seat for you at prizegiving.

2. Dance Summer School (Mrs Ford)

3. S4 Work Experience – September 2006 (Mrs Hamilton)
Self found places – I can take no more self found places at the moment. If this position changes I will let you know.

Strathclyde Police – If you want to apply for work experience with Strathclyde Police, see me as soon as possible, for an application.

4. SQA certificates (Mr Stewart)
Any pupil in classes 4/5/6 who has recently changed their address and not informed the school office, or who will change their address between now and August, should update this information with Mrs Armstrong in the school office. This will ensure that their SQA certificate is delivered to the correct address.

5. World Cup Competition (Mr Kerr)
Raise money for the school fund by displaying your knowledge of the beautiful game. Fill in your sheet and hand it in at reception, at intervals and lunchtimes on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of this week. Closing time for entries is 3.30 pm on Friday as the first game starts at 5.00 pm. Why not raise more money by getting extra sheets so that dads, granddads, mums and grannies can have a chance of winning the fabulous first prize of £50.

6. World cup draw (Mrs Hollywood)
A small group of S2 pupils have arranged a draw for the World Cup. Teams cost £1 – three prizes. See Mrs Hollywood for further details.

7. Chess Club (Mr McCormick)
Details of an all day chess competition in Stewart on Sunday 11 th June and of a two hour competition in Troon on Sunday 9 th July can be obtained from Mr McCormick.

1. Prize and certificate winners (Mrs Ford)
The list of prize and certificate winners will be on display from Thursday. You can check it on the website also. Prize winners must report to the school office to collect the money to buy a book. All prize and certificate winners must attend the prizegiving rehearsal on Monday 12 June at periods 5 and 6 in the Assembly Hall. The prizegiving is in the evening of Monday 12 June. Well done to everyone who has been awarded a prize or certificate.

2. Litter (Mrs Ford)
Please put all litter in the bins provided. Anyone seen dropping litter will be punished. If you drop litter into the grounds of the academy apartments you will be severely punished. Think of the environment – put litter in bins!

3. Engineering apprenticeships (Mrs Ford)
Anyone interested in this area should look at www.scottishengineering.org.uk . As well as information on apprenticeships there is a competition to win an iPOD.

4. Golf cup (Mr Bryden)
Anyone wishing to enter the school golf cup which will take place in June must give their names to Mr Bryden by Friday 2 nd June. No late entries will be accepted!

5. University Open Days (Mrs Hamilton)
University Open Days – information comes in regarding open days at colleges and universities all over the UK . If you want information regarding open days at a specific college or university, I may be able to help you. Remember web sites should give this information too.

6. Reading for Gold Scheme(Dr. Neilson)
Congratulations to Ross Sharpe of 1W who has just gained his Bronze Award of the Reading for Gold scheme. Well done!

1. Tennis(Mr Bryden)
Tennis will be on offer as an extra-curricular activity. This will start this week on Thursday after school.

2. S1/2 Championships(Mrs Hamilton)
S1 and S2 Championships will take place on Wednesday 24th May. Pupils taking part should have an invitation which they should give to their register teacher. The weather forecast is awful so as well as warm clothing, pupils require a change of clothes. They should also bring a still drink and a snack.

The Championship finals and inter-house relays will take place on Thursday the 25th May. The buses will leave Elmbank Drive at 1.30pm(NOTE EARLIER TIME). Pupils will be dismissed from field.

3. Summer School(Mr Bryden)
For information on Summer School Activities in Dance, Drama, Art&Design and Music, come to the PE Department where a poster is displayed and application forms are available. Thanks

4. Congratulations (Mr O'Brien)
Congratulations to the U14's football team who won the Kilmarnock and District Cup last Thursday against the Grange. Well done boys.
There will be a photo opportunity this Thursday lunchtime at 1.15pm for the Kilmarnock Standard. Please bring your medals with you and meet in L5. Your mentor,guru and coach. Mr O'Brien.

5. Chess Club(Mr McCormick)
Congratulations to Rian Hood 3S who is this year's Chess Champion.

Congratulations too, to John Shaw a member many many years ago, who has just qualified for the title of Grandmaster, the fifth Scot ever to do so.

The chess club will resume in September.

6. Brass Band(Mrs Ford)
Congratulations to the members of the brass band who performed so well at Dunblane Hydro last week.

1. Prizegiving (Mrs Ford)
In the near future the list of prizewinners will be posted. When it goes up please check for your name and follow the instructions about what to do. Remember, we award prizes and certificates for merit, attendance and effort so it is always worth checking for your name.

2. S3 Championships (Mrs Hamilton)
Thursday 18 th May. The weather forecast is not good for the week so there has been a change to the arrangements.

The Championship will begin at P1/2 in the Games Hall with High Jump.

P3/4 will be at field regardless of the weather so bring change of clothes. In the event of rain the hurdles will be cancelled but the other events will go ahead.

Pupils who wish to enter should see their PE teacher on Tuesday/Wednesday for an invitation which should be passed to their register teacher.

Study leave begins for S5/S6 pupils on Thursday 11 May. This means you may study at home on Thursday if you prefer. At all times during study leave you can come into school to study or for help.

4. Work experience (Mrs Hamilton)
I have been asked for extra copies of the application form for work experience. I have passed a few copies to your PSE teacher so ask them on Thursday. When you are returning these forms bring them to the PE Department at registration. It is not sensible to hand them to me on the way to field for example when I have 101 things to carry and put in my pockets.

5. Sports Championships 2006 (Mrs Hamilton)

Final – Thursday 25 th May

Invitations will be given out to pupils who have worked hard during the athletics block and whose behaviour is deemed suitable to last a whole day of Championship events.

7. S2 Football (Mr O'Brien)
Could all members of the S2 football team meet at 1.15 pm on Wednesday in Room L5 to discuss the team for the Kilmarnock Cup Final.

8. Music Success (Mr Ramsay)
Congratulations to Fiona Grant (S5) who gained 3 rd Place in the Vocal Section of the World Burns Federation National Competition. This is a superb achievement. Well done to Fiona for representing Kilmarnock Academy and Ayrshire at this event.

Congratulations to Gregor Keachie for gaining 1 st place as part of the duet that won the Brass Duets competition at the Ayrshire Music Festival and for third place in the Trumpet/Cornet/Flugel Horn Div. B class at the same festival.

9. Reading for Gold Scheme(Dr. Neilson)
Congratulations to Carlo Facchini, Alexander Gibson and Misha Reid of 1S1, and Craig Love of 1S2 who have gained their Bronze Awards of the Reading for Gold Scheme. Well done!

10. Congratulations (Mrs Miller)
Congratulations to Fraser Kerr, S2 who has been chosen to play for the U14 Ayrshire squad in golf and also is a member of the Scottish Golf Academy U16 squad.

Congratulations are also due to Lewis Gallacher in S2 who plays in U15 Ayrshire and U15 Scotland squads in badminton.

Congratulations to Stuart Gallacher who has been chosen to play in the U16 Scottish Basketball squad and is going to Andorra at the end of July and Barcelona in June to play in the U16's Promotions Cup. Well done to all boys.

1. SQA exams (Mrs Ford)
The official SQA examinations have now started. The corridor at the assembly hall is closed to pupils from now on. Please use the playground instead. Thank you.

2. Prom (Mrs Hollywood)
Full payment for tickets must be made by Friday 5 th May. All pupils must return a signed contract for their place to be confirmed.

3. Young Scot (Mr Howie )
NHS Health Scotland is working in partnership with Young Scot to look at a new approach to make sure that young people in Scotland have access to accurate health information online.

We want to hear from you about:

•  Your views on health information online

•  How you use the Internet to find the information you need

•  What are your favourites sites?

•  How often do you use the Internet?

•  What kind of health information do you think is important?

1. S4 pupils (Mrs Ford)
Good luck to all S4 pupils going on exam leave from Friday. We hope you do well in your exams. Remember:

•  Be in school 10 minutes before the start time

•  Bring your card with your candidate number

•  Sit in the correct seat

•  Leave mobile phones and other electrical devices at home.

2. School leavers (Mrs Ford)
To any S4 pupils now leaving school, we wish you all the very best for the future. When you make your first million remember your old school!

3. Non-uniform day (Mrs Ford)
Friday 28 th April is a non-uniform day in aid of school funds. You must pay £1 to your register teacher to receive a label which allows you not to wear uniform. Remember – no football tops, bare stomachs or clothes which are too short or too revealing.

4. Prizegiving (Office)
Could all pupils who received a trophy at prizegiving last year please return them to the school office as soon as possible. Thank you.

5. Outward Bound Course (Mr Bryden)
S5 pupils who are interested in the outward bound course must return their completed application forms by the end of the day on Friday 28 th April.

6. Strathclyde Park and Alton Towers Trip – Wednesday 28 th June (Mr Kerr)

8. S3/4 France/Belgium Trip – June 2007 (Mr Reid)
Due to the high demand for places on the above trip we are nine pupils over the maximum number allowed. To reduce the numbers, conduct cards, punishment exercises and latecoming will be taken into account when deciding the final list. If we are still above the required number then names will be drawn to decide. This will be done next session round about December. Anyone who is not allowed to go for whatever reason will have their money refunded. The next payment of £40 is due after the Standard Grade Exams – Friday 9 th June.

9. SQA Items (Mr Stewart)
Seat Numbers

The number of the seat you have been allocated for each particular exam that you are sitting will be posted three days before the exam, on the windows of room L5. You can check your seat number, and note it on your timetable from the playground area between the Cycle Shed and the School Office. The first seat numbers will be posted by Thursday at lunchtime.

Address

In order that your results certificate is posted to the correct address, please check the name and address on your personal SQA timetable. If there is any error then inform Mrs Armstrong in the School Office immediately so that a correction can be made. If you will be moving house before the certificates will be posted out please inform Mrs Armstrong of your new address.

8. Easter Egg Trail (Dr Neilson)
Congratulations to Lewis Campbell, 2B1, Rachel Kelly 1B, and Sean Porteous, 1S2 who followed the Easter Egg Trail and solved all the clues correctly. They win a large Easter egg. Small Easter eggs were given to each participant.

8. Thank you (Mrs Lightbown)
The Art and Design Department would like to thank all the young jewellery designers and their models for all their hard work. The jewellery fashion was a great success. Extended thanks to Miss McKee and Gilly Langton who organised such a great event. The music department provided a brilliant atmosphere with Ross Mackie and the Jazz Band illustrating the talent of pupils in this school.

6. S1 No smoking day quiz (Mr Howie)
Congratulations to all pupils in 1D and 1S2 who were winners of the above quiz. Each pupil will receive a £5 gift voucher. Well done!

7. Chess (Mr McCormick)
Rian Hood has won the British Land Chess Challenge winning all his games to score 21/21. Second was Kenny Gill with 15 and third was Sean Porteous with 13. They qualify for the Megafinals in May along with age group qualifiers Christopher Love and Gemma Stuart. The school championship is played on Mondays after school.

8. Reading for Gold Scheme (Dr. Neilson)
Congratulations to Bradley Craig of 1S2 who has gained his Bronze Award of the Reading for Gold Scheme. Well done.

9. Rehearsals for jewellery fashion show (Miss McKee)

1. Uniform (Mrs Ford)
A number of pupils appear not to be wearing full uniform. There will be a series of classroom checks on this – if you are caught without full uniform you will lose 5 credits and may be sent home.

2. Lunchtime detention (Mrs Ford)
We have started a system of lunchtime detention for pupils who misbehave at lunchtimes, either in school or in the town, and for not handing in punishment exercises. So, remember

•  Behave well at lunchtimes

•  Hand in punishment exercises – you should not get these in the first place!

3. Industrial Awareness Day – Thursday 9 th March (Mrs Hamilton)
All S3 pupils are involved in this. Pupils should come to school as normal, wearing uniform and register as usual. At 9.05 am S3 pupils should go to the Assembly Hall. The timing of the day is slightly different from normal and a free lunch is available. Register teachers have lists of pupils' group – a copy of all groups are on the PE Department windows.

4. World Book Day (Dr. Neilson)
Many thanks to all who took part in the World Book Day competition. David McIlwraith of 4B1 won a £10 book token and all the participants received a goodie bag.

5. Triple “P” summer trips – Wednesday 28 th June (Mr Kerr)

If anyone could provide any of these prizes we would be extremely grateful. These could include unwanted Christmas gifts or even prizes from local businesses or shops (if anyone has any contacts). The library is available to all year groups at lunchtime from 1.20 pm – 1.40 pm. However, on days when it is overcrowded certain year groups will have priority and others may be asked to leave. The priorities are:

1 st year – Monday and Tuesday 2 nd year – Wednesday and Thursday

3 rd and 4th years – Friday 5 th and 6 th years – everyday

If it is not your day(s) you may have to leave.

3. Geography Club (Mrs Lyon)
The Geography Club will commence on Tuesday at 1 pm in Mrs Lyon's room – use of J.T., quizzes, puzzles, newsletter, revision etc. Aimed at 1 st year but all geographers welcome. See you there!

4. Study Support (Mr Kerr)
This block is the final opportunity for you to access additional help and support before the exams in May. To encourage as many fourth year pupils as possible to access this excellent resource the school has negotiated a number of rewards eg Kilmarnock Football Club match tickets, cinema tickets, vouchers etc. To be considered for these rewards you should attend as many Supported Study classes as possible and put 100% effort into your learning during these sessions. Teachers taking these support sessions will keep a careful note of those in attendance and have the opportunity to comment on the work rate and effort of pupils.

The Second Round of the East Ayrshire Readers' Cup will take place next week. All S2 pupils will gather in the Assembly Hall Period 2 on Wednesday March the 1 st . So, Calling second years - support your team!

7. Annual Ayrshire Schools 7's Tournament (Mr Bryden)
Any S1,2,3 and Snr boys interested in entering must bring a team list to Mr Bryden by lunchtime on Wednesday 1 st March. Minimum 7 players maximum 10 in each squad. If any year group has enough interest two squads can be entered. See Mr Bryden for further information.

8. Chess (Mr McCormick)
The Junior team lost 3-1 to Greenwood B with Sean Porteous the only Kilmarnock Academy winner. The junior team have an away match next Monday so there will be no after school chess then. The School Championship will be held on the subsequent Mondays.

9. Good News (Miss Findlay)
Good luck to Sophie Mulholland in 1P2 who is competing in the Scottish Championships in Acrobatics Gymnastics on Saturday 4 th March.

10. Army Work Experience – 5-9 February 2007 (Mrs Hamilton)
I have 2 definite places and 6 reserve places for the above week's work experience. This would be S4 work experience in February 2007 instead of September 2006. The activities which will be on offer (subject to weather and local conditions) are as follows:

Abseiling, Climbing Wall, Command Tasks, Drill, Fieldcraft, First Aid, Map Reading, Mountain Biking, Obstacle Course, Paintballing, Physical Training, Small Arms Trainer (simulater), Swimming, Other Outdoor Activities If you would like to apply for one of these definite places or be put on the reserves list, all you have to do is to write your name and register class on a piece of paper and write down all the reasons why I should choose you. The deadline for this is Friday 31 st March – the day we go on holiday for Easter.

11. Triple “P” Award – Summer Trips – Wednesday 28 th June (Mr Kerr)
The survey carried out in PSE classes has delivered the following results. Class 1 and 2 can only go to Strathclyde Park . Classes 3,4,5 and 6 can either go to Strathclyde Park or Alton Towers . Only pupils who gain distinction or merit in 3 of the 4 triple “P” blocks are eligible. To enable buses etc to be booked, we must sign up and pay deposits before Easter. Signing up and the payment of deposits along with parental consent forms Strathclyde Park £8 – Alton Towers £20 – will take place in the Assembly Hall at 1.10 pm – 1.35 pm on Tuesday 14 th March, Wednesday 15 th March and Thursday 16 th March. By paying this deposit you are committing yourself to going on the trip. You must also bear in mind that if not enough people sign up at these times buses and places not taken up need to be cancelled or the school could face a hefty bill.

12. Congratulations (Mrs Miller)
Congratulations to Amanda Conway who represented the school in 60m hurdles at the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships and finished in silver medal position. This is an excellent achievement. Well done Amanda.

Congratulations is also due to Guy O'Neill and Rachael Miller who represented the South West District last weekend at the inter-district tennis competition at U18 level.

Sophie O'Neill in S2 also represented the county in the U14 squad.

13. DTP immunisations (Natalie)

9. Pupil Success
Congratulations to clarinettists Graeme Sharpe and Iain Hendry who have both successfully got through auditions and been offered places in the West of Scotland Schools Concert Band.

Congratulations to Fiona Grant and Ross Leighton who have been offered places on violin and double bass in the West of Scotland Schools Orchestra.

All Four will attend a trial day followed by a weeks residential course where they will receive tuition from some of Scotland 's top musicians. They will perform concerts in New Lanark, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Congratulations also go to Blair McMillan who has been invited to join the prestigious Strathclyde Youth Jazz Orchestra.

10. Scottish Music Centre
Congratulations go to Ross Mackie who has had a Musical Composition accepted by the above Centre based now at the City Halls, Candleriggs. The panel were very impressed with Ross's work and this has been posted on their website. Members of the general public are invited to vote on a number of Compositions. 1. Phones, MP3 players and gadgets (Mrs Ford)
All pupils are reminded that electronic gadgets of any description – phone, ipod, playstation, whatever – must not be seen or heard by a member of staff. If it is seen or heard it will be confiscated and you will have to collect it a tt he end of the day from Mrs Ford or a depute head teacher. If you do this more than once, the item will be kept for a week and returned only to a responsible adult.

2. Essay competition (Mrs Ford)
The General Medical Council is running an essay competition for 16 to 18 year olds. Pupils must write 800-2000 words on the role of doctors in 2050. Big prizes! More information at www.gmc-uk.org/education/med_ed/competition/index.asp

3. Scholarship for undergraduates (Mrs Ford)

4. Valentine Disco (Mr Kerr)
Tickets for the disco will be on sale in reception at lunchtime on Tuesday 7 th , Wednesday 8 th and Thursday 9 th February. The cost is £2.00 and pupils will not be allowed to pay on the night.

5. Triple “P” Awards (Mr Kerr)
The results of Block 3 of the Triple “P” Awards will be displayed in registration classes towards the end of the week. Only those with , Distinction, Merit and Disco against their name qualify for the valentine disco on Thursday 9 th February. Please note that the Triple “P” Assemblies will be delayed until after the exams which are scheduled for the hall for the next 2 weeks.

6. Coca Cola 7's Football Tournament (Mr Cowan)
Any S1 boy who is interested in playing in this tournament on Tuesday 7 February or wishes to find out more about the competition, please attend a short meeting in Mr Cowan's room (H4) on Wednesday 1 February at 1.15 pm.

7. Chess Club (Mr McCormick)
Rian Hood is the early leader in the British Land Competition which continues on Wednesday lunchtimes in C3.

8. Advanced Higher Biology (Mrs Hogg)

Well done to everyone for contributing over £200 to charity in the cans. Congratulations to the Pupil Council for coming up with this new system. Let's hope we can maintain this high level of generosity.

A big thank you to all pupils who took part in these on Monday. It all went very well. Congratulations on looking really smart and being well-behaved while waiting in the hall. (Even though fewer people this year needed to borrow any uniform).

7. Senior pupils – Rugby (Mr Bryden)
There is an opportunity for committed senior pupils to gain coaching qualifications with a view to helping deliver coaching sessions. This is a good opportunity for these newly qualified coaches to be put on East Ayrshire's database as coaches for paid work after this point and would leave avenues for further coaching qualifications. Please speak to Mr Bryden in the PE Department by Friday 27 th January.

8. Football match (Mr Bryden)
If anyone is interested in tickets to the “Morrisons International Challenge Match” between Scotland –v- Switzerland on Wednesday 1 st March – 8pm kick-off at Hampden Park , Glasgow . Tickets for U-16's are £5 over 16's and adults £10. If large groups are going and book together for every 10 U-16's tickets sold you get 1 free adult ticket. Pupils would be responsible for their own transport to and from Hampden. Those who are interested must see Mr Bryden by Friday 27 th January.

9. Chess Club (Mr McCormick)
The British Land Competition is now underway on Wednesday lunchtimes (1.10 – 1.40). If you missed the first round you can still make a late entry.

2. S1 - Newspaper lunchtime club (Mr Cornyn)
Any first years interested in joining a newspaper lunchtime club. We are looking for jouirnalists to write for our paper. Please come to Mr Cornyn's room (A7) at lunchtime on Friday 20 th January to find out more.

3. Ski Trip (Mr O'Brien)
Meeting for those going on the ski trip to Aviemore in room L5 Technical Department at 1 pm on Thursday to arrange boot size, jacket size etc.

4. Rugby Coaching (Mr Bryden)
There are 30 places available for a 10 week rugby coaching programme at the school later this term. Would any pupils who are interested come and add their name to a list in the PE Department. Tickets are now on sale for our popular Burns Supper on Thursday 26 th January from 7 – 10.30 pm. The evening includes a three course meal with a choice of haggis, steak pie or vegetarian dish and excellent entertainment including a live ceilidh. All S4,5 and 6 pupils andstaff are very welcome. Tickets – priced £6 will be sold at registration classes throughout this week – don't miss this exciting event!

1. Welcome back (Mrs Ford)
Welcome back to school. I hope you had a good holiday and Santa was kind to you. Your number one New Year's Resolution should be to work hard in school.

2. S5/6 prelims (Mrs Ford)
Reminder to senior pupils that the prelims begin on Wednesday 1 February. You should be revising now for your examinations.

3. S5/6 latecoming (Mrs Ford)
This has proved to be a serious problem this year. From now on S5/6 pupils will complete a punishment exercise if they are late, in the same way as younger pupils. It is a pity that we have to do this but the level of latecoming must improve.

4. Class photographs (Mrs Ford)
Class photographs for the yearbook will be taken on Monday 23 January. Plenty of time for essential haircuts.

5. Registration (Mrs Hollywood)
2 Wallace 1 – from Monday 16 th January the class will register in room L5 with Miss Paton. Miss Paton will also take over guidance responsibility for the class.

5 Scott – from Monday 16 th January the class will register in room B5 with Mrs Thomson.

6. Stationery Shop (Dr Neilson)
This term, the LRC has opened a Stationery Shop selling pens, pencils, rulers etc. This will be open at lunchtimes each day from 1.20 – 1.40 pm. Check it out for the bargains of the year.

7. S4 PSE (Mrs Hamilton)
This week pupils will complete application forms for the position of Kilmarnock Academy Disco Organiser. Pupils should also be given a sheet with the questions to be asked at the interview. Interviews will be held on weeks beginning 16 th and 23 rd January. Your PSE teacher will tell you when and where your interview is. Interviews will be made up of 5 pupils. You will get feedback after the interview. Prepare answers to the questions so you know what to say. Good Luck!

8. S6 (Mr Richardson)
All S6 pupils should report to Assembly Hall on Thursday 12 th January period 3 for a talk by the British Driving Standards Association. Register will be taken.

9. Ski Trip (Mr O'Brien)
Could all pupils going on the ski trip to Aviemore please make the 2 nd payment of £50 by the 25 th January to Mr O'Brien or Miss Wallace. There are currently 3 places left on this trip. These are on a first come first served basis. If you are interested see Mr O'Brien or Miss Wallace.

1. Car park at flats in Braeside Street (Mrs Ford)

Pupils must not cut through the car park next to the flats in Braeside Street . The residents have objected to this, and the slope at the back is dangerous. If you are caught doing this you will be in trouble.

2. S6 Boys calendar (yearbook committee)

Calendar will go on sale from Thursday 15 th December at the Main Entrance. See the boys as you've never seen them before!!! £5.

3. Festive Fives (Mr Howie)

Festive fives are organising a 5-a-side football tournament, this will be held at the Games hall during lunchtime. The tournament will start week beginning Monday 19 th December – Wednesday 21 st December. The cost to enter will be £1.50 per player or £7.50 per team. This initiative is part of the 4 th year enterprise project. Returns by 16 th December.

4. Christmas Disco – Wednesday 21 st December (Mr Kerr)

5 Radioactive waste debate (Mrs. Hériaud)
This is another call for any pupils who are interested in taking part in the above debate. If the thought of a radioactive waste site being built next to your house would bother you then this debate is for you. It is a chance for you to get your thoughts put on paper and to make a difference to the future for you and your children. If you are interested see me in biology room B10 during lunchtime on Friday or any other time to give me your name.

6. Environment club for S1 pupils (Mrs. Hériaud)
All S1 pupils are invited to an environment club meeting at lunchtime on Thursday at 1.15pm in B10.

7. Senior help (Mrs. Hériaud)
Calling all you caring, conscientious, considerate, capable, cooperative seniors (S5/6)! I am looking for willing helpers to join in the crusade to get Kilmarnock Academy 's name well and truly onto the Eco school map. We have junior pupils who already give blood, sweat and tears tirelessly each week in their valiant efforts to help the environment and I think it's time they saw their role models do the same. Come to a meeting in B10 on Friday at 1.20pm. Don't be afraid. There will be a couple of S2 pupils there too but they don't bite (any more!).

8. Senior pupil classroom helpers (Mrs. Hériaud)
I would like to invite senior (S6) pupils to volunteer to help in junior classes during one or more of your free periods. This is excellent work experience, especially if you are considering a career in teaching, and it would be a great addition to your CV. Speak to me in B10 or the staff room if you are interested.
