1. Calendar (C Ford)
  (i) The East Ayrshire Family Open Day has been set for Saturday 30th October in the Grand Hall.
  (ii) The summary document for school events lists the S4 Parents’ afternoon as 12 February.  This should read 1st February.  The calendar has it noted correctly.

2. Extra-curriculum clubs and activities (C Ford)
We will issue to pupils a summary sheet of all extra-curricular activities which are running in school.  If you are involved in anything at lunchtime or after school please pass the following information to me.
Activity, Who it is for, When it runs, Where, Teacher in charge.

3. SQA developments (C Ford)
Two copies of the SQA information on developments are in the staffroom.  You can also check on developments online.

4. LTS website (C Ford)
This website provides comprehensive information on all current development, and useful resources.  It has been revamped to improve ease of use.  Visit www.LTScotland.org.uk

5. IT problems (C Ford)
I raised our complaints about loss of material from C drives and we have been given extra technician support to resolve the problem.  Robert Swan will be working with David Elliott.  If you need work retrieved then please let David know and it should be possible to find it again.  P.S. Welcome to Robert!

6. Fire drill (C Ford)
Not bad for a first attempt particularly given the number of new staff.  The evacuation was very quick.
Problems noted:

  • Small number of pupils did not know where to go.
  • A few people, staff and pupils, exited the Old Academy alone the link corridor.  You must exit by the nearest exit.
  • Office staff distribute class registers to register teachers.  Absentees should be marked on the list.

There will be another fire drill shortly but no further warning will be given.  Please ensure pupils know where to line up.

7. Extra in-service day (C Ford)
There will be a further in-service day on Friday 8th October for Curriculum for Excellence.

8. Click & Go (M Ross)
In preparation for going “live” with period by period registration, could you please let Mary Ross know

  • If you have access problems to Click & Go or
  • If any of your class lists do not appear correctly in Click & Go at the correct period.

9. School trip (L Johnstone)
    Please note the following pupils will be attending a trip to Glasgow University on Monday 6th September to visit the Physics and Astronomy department.  Please allow them out of period 3 class to meet at Reception at 11.25am.  Many thanks and sorry for any inconvenience caused.  The pupils are as follows:

10. Leavers
Chelsey Beveridge (4W) has left for St Joseph’s Academy.  Please forward all folio work to M Devlin so that I can pass it on.  Thanks.

11. Nurture Groups (P Donnelly)
Please note the new S1 Nurture Groups will be held P3 and P4 every Wednesday in H1 up until the September weekend.

1. Behaviour in the playground – (Mrs Ford)
Every area of the school playground is monitored by CCTV cameras, so your behaviour is recorded.
If you misbehave in the playground you will be seen and disciplined.  If you throw anything in the playground, you will be suspended.  It is extremely dangerous to throw anything, large or small.

2. Return of Art and Design folios – (Mrs Lee)
Any art students who would like their Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2 or Higher work back need to bring their money to Mrs Lee before 13th September.  Remember if you do not ask for your work back at this time your work will be destroyed at SQA!!

3. Prize Draw – (Mrs Hamilton)
I have 2 free tickets for Basshunter at the Grand Hall on Friday 3rd September during the Kilmarnock Edition Fest.  I intend to have a draw for these tickets.  If you would like to take part in the draw, put your name and register class into the box at reception from Wednesday.  The draw will take place on Friday 27th August at the interval.  The winner will be informed as soon as possible thereafter.

4. Extra Curricular Activities – Music – (Mr Ramsay)
Brass Band – Tuesday 3.30 – 4.45pm in the Assembly Hall, see Mr Ayre.
Jazz Band – Wednesdays 3.30 – 4.30pm in EA1, see Mr Ramsay.
Junior Choir – Wednesday lunchtimes in EL1, all S1 – S2 pupils are welcome, see Ms Hampson.
Senior Choir – Thursdays 3.30 - 4.30pm in EL1, all S3-S6 pupils are welcome, see Mr Ramsay.
String Orchestra – Friday lunchtimes in EA1, see Mrs Steele.

Jazz Band
 All pupils in the Jazz Band to meet at reception on Thursday 26th August at the start of period 6, to travel to the Edinburgh Festival.

5. PE Department – (Mrs Miller)
A Games Night for all new S1 pupils, boys and girls will take place in the PE Department on Tuesday 24th August 3.30pm – 4.30pm. 

A variety of activities will be on offer, including – Basketball, Football, Badminton and Rounders

6.  School Dance Club – (Mrs Miller)
This club is open to all pupils interested in Dance.  This year the group will be working on a comprehensive dance course set at Intermediate 2 level.  The class starts on Thursday 2nd September 3.30 – 5.30pm.

7.  Basketball Club – (Mrs Miller)
This popular club will commence on Thursday 26th August 3.30 – 4.30pm.  All year groups are invited to come along, boys and girls.

8.  S5/6 Pupils Open Day – S.A.C – (Mr Richardson)
Please note the Scottish Agricultural College open day and taster day are as follows:
            Taster Day – Friday 27th August.
            Open Day – Saturday 4th September.
            If interested information in the school library.

9. Trophies
If any pupil was awarded a trophy, the trophies are now ready for pick-up, you can pick up the trophies from the school office.

10. Clothes recycling (Mrs Ford)
Please remember to bring in old clothes and shoes for the recycling bin.  Everything goes to a good cause and we receive a small donation each time it is emptied.

11. New S1 Nurture Groups (P Donnelly)
Please note the new S1 Nurture Groups will be held P3 and P4 every Wednesday in H1 starting Wednesday 25th August.  These sessions will run until the October holidays then be reviewed.  Please allow all pupils involved to attend. 1. Welcome (Mrs Ford)
Welcome back to school to all those who are returning and a special welcome to those pupils starting at Kilmarnock Academy for the first time.  We hope everyone had a great holiday and we are now looking forward to a hardworking, successful year.

2. University Open Days (Mrs Ford)
S5/6 pupils will shortly be issued with a list of open days.  If you wish to attend any open day you must bring a parental note in advance.

3. School blazers (Mrs McCulloch)
Blazers for sale – see Mrs McCulloch for details.

4. S1 and S4 photographs ( Mrs Ford)
All S1 and S4 pupils will have their photographs taken on Tuesday 24th August.  Plenty of time to arrange hair cuts, makeovers or face lifts – sorry, those would be for staff only.  You must be in full uniform.

5. Lockers (Mrs Dunachie)
Pupils who wish to hire a locker can do so from 8.30 – 8.55am every morning for the next week.  Please go to the print room on L floor.
